sincerely yours..

Just got curious on how much have i visited. Thanks to the kind of work that i have. Despite physical and mental exhaustion (as always), this is one of the reasons why i stick around! That very idea of setting my feet to places i probably will never afford from my own pocket; well, maybe not as often and not as many!

Hopefully by the end of the year i would be a C+ or even higher, say B. Major target areas: cebu, bohol, northern mindanao, northern luzon and the bicolandia!

My Lakbayan grade is C!

How much of the Philippines have you visited? Find out at Lakbayan!

Blog Entrya tale of a nomadAug 18, '08 9:29 AM
for everyone

A week before I left for Brunei, I was on the verge of becoming an NPA. (If you are thinking of the rebel group then you are totally wrong! haha) NPA, as in No Permanent Address. That time, our used-to-be apartment needed to be vacated, and some miscommunication has resulted to a very short period of moving out! Good for my housemates who had their ways to go, as for my case, pathetically, I’ve got nowhere. And given my very limited time and budget, it was quite impossible for me to get a new home (i’ve only got a week!). I almost stayed in the MMDA booth under santolan flyover! (hahaha. ok. OA, I know!) But I must admit though that I nearly surrendered, I wanted to just pack my things and head back to our own niche down in the province! But God is good, the new tenant (a couple with a new-born) was kind enough to give me an ultimatum of two months, (1 month to cover my business trip, and another for me to get my new place), allowing me to use my room until the transfer.

Anyways, and so the time has come; I needed to fly out of the country for some legacy work. When I checked in to my hotel, what entered my mind is the totally hilarious situation I am in. As I set my foot to my room, a spacious air-conditioned hub greeted me like a VIP. A soft matrimonial bed complete with feather pillows and comforter. (ok, im kidding, what I got were two single beds which I just moved to look like a matrimonial one. hehehehe). A free and unlimited access to the net, a free laundry and room service with daily supply of the morning paper (laundry is free because charged to the project! ahaha! actually everything is charged!), a free breakfast (nakakasawa ang baked beans, sausages and toasted bread pero soya lang. loved the orange juice though!), a good view of the south china sea (thus, the hotel’s name “seaview”), a mini fridge with chocolates and the common type of beverages, television, landline (kahit wala naman ako matatawagan!) and an elegant bathroom complete with hot and cold shower jacuzzi! Every morning, a 4WD Toyota Prado (which, by the way, was the first Car I ever drove in a highway and I looovvvveddd it!) picks us up to bring us to the jungle, our work site! This was my life, at least for the last 29 days. I was living the life of a price, man! How cool was that!

But all things have an end. And here I am, back to reality. And that means I’m back to a small room with my 2-inch thick mattress on the floor, a four year old desk fan (oo, since college pa yung fan ko! pati yung mattress din, sabay ko bili yun e! hahahaha) and my shirt cabinet. And ultimately, im back on my search for a place to live, my new abode, and I still got a month. (whew! Need to double my effort now!) Ang saklap. It’s as if I have just awakened from a sound sleep.

Before giving an end to this dramalogue, I must say that some people are really just great on their own ways. Like friends who show their true form at times when they are needed the most. Cliché as it its but that’s just the way how it works baby! Been there, done that! Just hats off to these people, you know who you are!

Whew! What an experience! Irony in its greatest form…

Blog Entryof boredom and wallowing...Jul 18, '08 9:37 AM
for everyone
i really don't know what exactly to write, or where to start. but i know there's a lot i could say; the thing is, blogging is really not my cup of tea. (i wish i have the minds of toff or king or obi or gino when it comes to blogging.) anyways. i'll just type what comes to my mind. hehehe

okay, i got a good hotel but i am limited to just surfing the net. the tv's got some international channels, but mostly sports and news ones. so thank god the hotel provides broadband connection, although it totally sucks because it cannot sustain the connectivity, for whatever F-ing reason, the connection is on and off. I've called the frontdesk several times, but all they can promise is that they will try to fix it. watdapak!

two days in this islamic country and my work has not kicked-off yet. just mere meetings, discussions and site visits. tsk.tsk. totally not good for me. it is completely what i was trying to avoid, a repeat of the history. on a side note, it just made me understand why it happened the first time. but what can i do i've got no control over things. and that's what frustrates me now. i have a good reason to believe that what i am to do can be classified as a semi-high profile one. as i was told, this is not your ordinary Phase II ESA. and i saw that it really is not. lots of new things to learn and a great work experience to acquire. i am completely challenged by this project, mentally and physically. specially after everything was thoroughly explained to me, and that i was able to completely understand what's to be done. and i am so honored and humbled that i was the one chosen to take over. as i said i really got a lot of catching and leveling up to do, i need to prove myself that i deserve this opportunity, and made them feel that it was a right decision to choose me. i need to make this a successful business trip.

i really do hope we can start moving forward. because the idea of being idle leaves me wanting to go home, as i'm missing a lot of happenings back there. hehehe.

anyway, i should better hit my bed. my colleague just called, looks like we are to start some work tomorrow. nice. i was to write some more; my experience, observation, assessment - whatever it is - in this place. but maybe i could have it on another entry. cause i'd like to back it up with some nice shots. but i hope i can keep my words. hahaha.

Let our presence be felt! After the heartbreaking 0-14 standing last season, first game means first win to the UP Fighting Maroons. A good indicator for a great season ahead! We are hungry for more! U! P! Fight!

And kudos to the UP community for the spectacular UAAP Season 71 opening prod! Galing! Iba talaga 'pag gawang UP! Happy Centennial to all!

Haha

Blog EntryShoutout 001: F*ck! Federer Lost!Jul 6, '08 10:13 PM
for everyone
Ok. Since im not a hard-core blogger, i just thought of making this 'shoutout' series of basically anything and everything. Think this might be more effective in expressing my thoughts; straight-forward manner. After all, engineers love direct-to-the-point solutions! And for the first of this series, here it is:

Waaahhh! What the F! happened to Roger! Yes, yes, Rafa also deserves the win but hey, what about the grass supremacy? Tsk! Tsk! Good thing i missed watching the game! But i salute my idol for not giving Rafa an easy break for his first All England Club title! He has to steal the French open title next year to even out!

Love this song! Relates me to a situation I'm in. (Naks! ) Heard this in an episode of Kyle XY which is my latest addiction.

**********************

Touched by faith, it plays the only way that it can, and it will, alone.
In a destinedly display, all the wheels would fall off in the same place.

And I don’t mind, and I don’t mind,

to look inside your thoughts…
And I don’t mind, and I don’t mind,

but I can’t find my way in…

Frozen in time, and only you and I can see the warning signs,
through thousands upon thousands of honest lines,
Dry your eyes…

Far away, what was deemed to never change,

found a rift, made a void at its own pace.

In a blindside ambush fight, it all fell at the hands of a mind game.

And I don’t mind, and I don’t mind,

to look inside your thoughts…
And I don’t mind, and I don’t mind,

but I can’t find my way in…

Frozen in time, and only you and I can see the warning signs,
through thousands upon thousands of honest lines,
Dry your eyes…

Black and white’s not always simple as it seems.

But I will try to make it easy on you.

And I will, and I will, and I will set you free
And I will, and I will, and I will set you free

And I will, and I will, and I will set you free

Finally, after so many years of just being third, second or nothing at all, we just nailed it! We are this season's UPLB Engineering Meet Cheerdance Champions! Whew! After a sem-long of bloody practice and hardships, nothing just compares to the feeling of finally bagging it! I was there, to physically witness the great performance of all No Goods! We are the UPLB League of Agricultural Engineering Students, also known as NG (No Goods). Iba talaga kami. UP na, taga Eng'g pa! San ka pa?!

Also, kudos to Nestea, our brod and choreographer; and to Eona, the current president and my tropa, who made this all possble! And a big round of applause to the tandem of Tolits and JM who just landed 2nd and 3rd runners up to the 2008 Mr. and Ms. UPLB Engmeet!  Astig kayo!  "I luv NG award" na ito!!!!

"Just showing how strong we are!"

By the way, did i say na wala pa ako tulog? Shempre, after the winning moment, what time would it be? E di party! Inuman to max! Waaaaa!

Blog EntryKasalanan nyo to, Rivermaya, Jullieanne at Imago!Jan 25, '08 12:35 AM
for everyone

Jarrraaan! Hahaha! Wheewww!

No big deal. Up close and personal, as theycommonly say it.

Magaling si Jullieanne. I dont know any of her songs at ngayon ko lang sha narinig, live pa. Nakakatuwa naman. Ganda ng boses. Nakaka-inlove!

Agree?

Shempre pa, finale ang Rivermaya. Still the stars that they were, i guess. First gig daw ni Jason, yung bago nilang vocalist who, was of course the winner ng katatapos lang nilang pa-contest.

Astig. Yun ang mga gimik na talagang masaya. Sa susunod uli.

Watch out for the digital shots and even video clips that i'll soon post. Rock on!

Blog Entrythe week that was..Dec 15, '07 2:16 PM
for everyone

its 3am, kakatapos lang namin maginom sa LB square (yes, dumayo pa ako ng LB para lang mag inom!), may isang babaeng ubod ng kulit at nagpapasamang maginternet, kaya eto ako, tryin to recollect some happenings in the past week just to kill time.

Dec 6 - i left for baganga, davao oriental with mike to do a post phase 2 ESA. took us 8 freakin, but exciting and adventure-full days there.

Dec 13 - took the last DVO-MNL PAL flyt at 9:05 pm. Back in manila, my former officemates in the then ISS (RMG na daw ngayon) was having their xmas party, in which i was generously invited. As we touched down at around 1130, King called. Dahil malakas si king at g3 sakin, dumaan ako. By the way sa Valle Verde 6 pala iyon. Well, i had fun. Stayed for about 2 hrs and by 3 am, i was fast asleep, perhaps having a great time snoring.

Dec 14 - moment of truth! But before thatm i receive several gifts from the team, boss alfred gave me a swiss knife, from benj was an LED keychain, karen gave something like pouch (dunno what it's exactly called), then shocking as it was, bagdad and aener gave some stuffs they bought from toy kingdom! hanep ang yayaman nila. and by the way, did i say na nagpa-lunch out din sila at grabe ang inorder na pagkain! parang wala ng bukas! but goin back, i said t'was the moment of truth kasi appraisal namin, at sonrang kabado ako, hindi ako mashado nakakain! hasle! pero good thing, ok naman ang naging resulta. i must say i got something more taht what i've expected, and then i was able to breathe again. at night, had our most awaited company xmas party. bet you know why it was awaited!

Dec 15 - travelled down to LB, (where im at right now) to reunite with some good friends back in college! had a great night!

Next? we'll be in caylabne resort in cavite (dec 17-18) to have the separate xmas party/outing/team bldg of the environments division! cant wait! im so excited! whew!

till the next adventure!

Blog EntryOvernyt sa OpisSep 13, '07 12:32 PM
for everyone

Blog EntryImprisoned by Prison BreakSep 11, '07 5:35 AM
for everyone

Absent ako kahapon sa opisina. Bakit kamo? So kahit magbyahe pa ako, hindi pa rin ako aabot for half day.

(God, Where have i been?) All 22 episodes. Ihi lang ang pahinga. We started 2 pm ng sunday, natapos kami ng 530 am ng monday. great! what a way to start the week!

Well done Mr Scofield! Since mataas naman ang IQ ko, that'll make me a genius! hahaha!

Blog EntryG3 Read --> 'Why I'll Pass On iPod Touch' :DSep 7, '07 4:23 AM
for everyone

Got this on yahoo tech. Now there's a reason to contemplate. hehehe ;p

'Apple just announced the iPod Touch! Now we're talking, but what does this mean for the iPhone?

The main reason I was holding off on the iPhone was price. Now I'm an avid Apple fan, but first and foremost, I like to spend my money wisely. Despite a few gripes regarding the touch keypad, most of the reviews I've read about the iPhone are decent, nothing but praise. But again, price was definitely an obstacle for most, especially if they had to switch phone carriers. Somehow, opening your checkbook to pay early termination fees, $60 and up for an unlimited data plan, and over $500 for the device itself just hurt too much.

Today, I finally did it. I bought an iPhone.

Yes, I know I said I'd wait for the next generation, but I just couldn't resist the $200 price drop. Anyway, I'm taking my chances, because this may be the only chance at nabbing the-soon-to-be-obsolete 4GB model for under $300 (it's OK, I'm not proud). Now why would I buy an iPhone, when I could've waited for the $299 8GB iPod Touch, you ask? Here's my logic:

No Phone: The new iPod Touch may have more storage, but it doesn't have a phone. This means you still have to carry two devices: a phone and the iPod Touch. I don't know about you, but I'm not one to carry an iPod everywhere I go. That's why I say no thanks to the iPod Touch. I'll just stick to an iPhone and eliminate all the excess baggage.

No Camera: The 2-megapixel camera is gone.

No Bluetooth or EDGE: This means no bluetooth headphones, headset, or access to the Internet when you can't find a hotspot. Bummer.

Wi-Fi: Woohoo, it has Wi-Fi — but what's the use of having Wi-Fi if you can't always access a hotspot outside the house? Once you walk out the door, the only place you have free access to the Internet is at Starbucks to buy music.

Storage: Why, oh why on earth would you pay $299 for an 8GB iPod or $399 for 16GB? OK, so it's flash-based, has a multi-touch interface, a beautiful 3.5-inch display, and Wi-Fi capabilities, but the price just seems outrageous when the 160GB metal iPod Classic is only $349. Makes me wanna weep.

No New Features: The iPod Touch is just an iPhone without a phone. And why didn't they add new colors, FM radio, an expansion slot, or a microphone to give it VoIP capabilities? Even the Sony Mylo and Zune have some of these features. Why make it look and act like a PDA, yet leave out important things like a microphone.

The good news is we now have options. Options are great when you don't have to to decide between carriers, or find ways to unlock the iPhone without it blowing up in your face. The iPod Touch has great features, but doesn't compare to the iPhone. Now that the iPhone is cheaper, why not go for the one with the most features at the expense of storage? Besides, I already have plenty of storage for music on my four other iPods.'    by: Gina Hughes

Blog EntryJob Hunters - Read This!Aug 3, '07 3:02 AM
for everyone

Got this from Yahoo! Finance. And i find it quite informative particularly for the job hunters who are so dying to be hired by the companies they'd like to get into. Well, these are said to be common signs which will guide you in knowing if you are, unfortunately, not the front-runner for the job. Ouch! Yes it hurts. But think of the brighter side though. Your time is not wasted further and you can at once move on to your next target! hehehe!

To all my friends who keeps texting me on matters related to this, you may now take it from the experts!

When An Employer Just Is Not That Into You
Liz Ryan thru Business Week Online

1. Silence After Initial Contact

Let's say you get a voice mail from a company recruiter, and you in turn leave three voice mails without a response. That typically means the company recruiter made a bunch of phone calls to track down likely candidates and didn't reach you, but did reach four or five other people. Of those four or five, let's say three of the folks were great fits for the job.

What's her incentive to follow up with you? Very little, if any. If a series of callbacks elicits no response, leave one more message saying, "It seems that you're going in another direction with your search. Best of luck to you, and I'll assume that you're not interested in me at this point." Then, don't call back anymore. If they want you, they can find you.

2. Difficulty Scheduling a Phone Screen

Recruiters are as time-pressed as anyone else. When they have something they need to get done, they want to do it now. When someone calls you hoping to conduct a phone screen with you, they pray you're at home and ready to chat with them at that moment. If you're busy or unprepared, it's fine to schedule a phone screen for later in the week. But if they say, "I'll call you back to schedule your phone interview," that's a bad sign. There's a high probability they won't. And if you find that you're wasting calls and e-mail messages getting that phone screen scheduled, they're talking to other people they're more excited about. Let them go.

3. Last-Minute Interview Changes

Perhaps you're scheduled to come in and meet Joe, Javier, and Sandra. The day before the interview, there's a change: Joe and Sandra aren't available, so you're going to meet Cindy and Mohamed. When you get to the company, another change -- you're going to see Janice, or is it Janelle? -- the temp who's working in marketing. Lots of interview changes are a bad sign. Every company pays attention to its urgent items and lets others slide. If your interview feels like an afterthought, it's probably because after they scheduled you to come in they found the world's perfect candidate (not you) for the job.

4. Delay in Post-Interview Contact

Every corporate manager and HR person is overbooked, so we'll give them a week to collect their thoughts. The second week is when they should be scheduling people for second interviews, if it hasn't happened earlier. By the third week, you have to conclude that one of two things is true: Either your interview didn't make anyone's heart beat faster, or they're so disorganized (and discourteous) that you really don't want to work there anyway.

If you've sent a polite post-interview thank-you letter and left a follow-up voice mail or two, but find yourself sitting in RadioSilenceLand three weeks later, it's time to move on. You could get bumped at any point in the process: after your phone screen, after your HR interview, or after you meet the hiring manager. Rather than exhaust yourself following up on a dead seed, acknowledge the brush-off and move on.

5. Too Many Changes in the Process

You phone-interviewed for a sales engineer position, working under Stan. When they brought you in for a face-to-face interview. it had morphed into a product engineer position in Stella's group. Now they want you in again, to meet with Jared for an applications engineer position.

At this point, stop the action and request a live phone call with the person you feel most comfortable with in these conversations. Ask him or her, "What's going on?" With luck, you'll get a straight answer: A big reorganization is under way, or they love you and they're trying to find a spot that is actually budgeted to be filled this month. Don't stay in the process if you can't get anyone to level with you. Companies who play bait-and-switch are very often employers who value their employees' needs little, if at all.

6. Slow Follow-Up After Second Interview

By the time you've made two trips to an employer's facility, you're well invested in the process. If they are too, they should tell you. You should hear from a company within three or four business days following a second interview, and recruiters should be brimming with enthusiasm in their follow-up phone calls or e-mails.

If that's not the case, give them a heads-up that you've got other fish to fry; give them another day to fill you in on where you stand in their process, and then walk away. Just leave a voice mail saying, "I'm under the impression that you didn't find a good match between my background and the position we discussed; if I'm wrong about that, please let me know today. Otherwise, I'll close the file."

7. Delay in Extending the Offer

With corporate rigmarole being what it is, it's hard to get an offer letter approved these days. There may be a few days' delay between the call that says, "We really like you! Let's talk terms!" and the arrival of a written offer letter. A few days means three or four days, max. If you've been waiting a week-and-a-half and you haven't heard an update, you're being insulted. They don't think it's worth their time to pick up the phone and explain what obstacles they're running into -- or maybe they've lost interest.

You'll just have to cool your heels and wonder about that. That's a terrible sign, and a big signal to find a more communicative employer.

Talk to people at your gym, on the train, or at your next neighborhood barbecue, and you'll hear more than one story that ends with, "I should have paid attention to the red flags in the interview process." You'll hear it from people who failed to walk away when they should have, and wasted weeks or months being insulted by uncommunicative prospective employers.

You'll hear it from people who waited patiently for a disappointing offer, and from people who lived to regret accepting a job with an employer who executed a poorly run interview process.

You seldom hear from people, "I walked away when that company blew me off, and I wish I hadn't."

Baby boomers are retiring every day, and companies need talent. You need an employer who will treat you like a professional, and not a cog in its engine. Put your energy in pursuing the right job. Remember, not every seed is meant to grow.

Blog EntryHad a Bad Dream Last Night! Tsk!Jul 26, '07 10:51 PM
for everyone

Just felt the need to write this down..

Kagabi, masaya kaming nagkwe-kwentuhan ng 2 kong bugoy na housemates. that was, if i'm not mistaken, the 3rd time na inabot kami ng madaling araw na puro gaguhan at kwentuhan lang ang ginawa. stories were shared - past and present - the untold ones and the today's twists of the yesterdays.. shempre, anu pa ba pag-uusapan namin, e di something that we can all relate to: high school. just everything and anything that connects to our high school days - who, what, huwaat?!, when, where, how, ows?, naman? di nga? tang-ina!, hanep!, hayop!

Eto ka na, 2 am, pumasok ako ng kwarto at direcho ng nakatulog. several minutes more and joed, who slept on couch outside, was screaming "putang-ina! putang-ina!". i was awaken by such loud noises, and i instantly went out. the next thing i saw, joed was down, bathing on his own blood, dead! pinasok kami ng magnanakaw, nanlaban si ed, napatay. coming from behind, adrenalin rush told me to kick the thief's left hand. knife fell down the floor. quickly, i seized the charger beneath the tv and tried to choke him as hard as i could, while trying to wake aldi up by hardly kicking the door of his room and shouting out his name.. few more minutes, still no aldi out. until thankfully, i was able to knock the thief down by, God knows how, t'was unclear.

In the next picture, the sun was slightly up, cops and their mobiles around our apartment, and so are the uzis. abs and gma reporters were also present, along with their ob-vans, trying to get to me. i was on the side, staring at nowhere, blood stain all over my face and my shirt. then came aldi, i stood up, gathered all my remaining strenght and hit him hard on his face. he almost fell down, kept on saying "why? what happened? why mad at me? what the hell was that?!". all i answered was a crispy "putang-ina mo! wala kang kwentang hayop ka!" cops stopped me, and dragged me to their mobile, saying i need to go with them to the station to have statements..

The next thing i heard was my phone, alarming loud, and its laready 8 am. kaya eto, late ako pumasok ng opisina! hahaha! Hanggang sa banyo, i was thinking of it over and over. I could'nt remember when was the last bad dream i had, and what was it's story..

I could almost write a short story for it. pwede ng pang-indie film! Tang-ina, WHAT A DREAM!

Been a while..

"And in this crazy life, and through this crazy time,
It's you! It's you! You make me sing, you're every line,
           you're every word, you're everything!"

Now back to work..

Blog Entry"Eto na yun e! Eto na o! Anak naman ng..."Jun 7, '07 6:11 AM
for everyone

Last friday, I was really really happy and excited. Finally, the moment i've been longin for has come. Finally, I was given a fieldwork, which means, travel and extra earnings.

But then again, fate is really pushing me to my limit. Or should I say it is bias against me. Originally, i was to head off last wednesday to Cagayan de oro and Iligan City, for 2 weeks or so, to do additional ESA (environmetal site assessment) and GMEs (groundwater monitoring event) to several caltex retail stations around those cities. As the current week unfolds, we received a word that the plan has been changed. Instead cdo and iligan, we'll then be doing the same work to the same client around davao, cotabato, maguindanao and sultan kudarat. So we re-routed our plane booking to davao. In fact, our materials and equipment have already been cargoed to davao. The flight has been reset to saturday (as in bukas!). With that heard, i bacame even more excited. I love traveling and that change of plan has resulted to a better picture. Totally works for me. But there's a sad part though, as the chance to side-trip to Camiguin and to do white water rafting in CDO was lost. "Amp! Piso na, naging bato pa!" was all my work buddy said to me, in a completely frustrated tone. He has never been to those areas kasi, kaya naman he was equally excited, and now, equally frustrated...

Before COB yesterday, management annouces that the planned company outing has been set on the 15th. And now, our TM wants everyone in the team to attend. As a consequence, all scheduled fieldworks were put on hold. Yes, it is indeed a consequence for me because for the third time (and hopefully it will be the last!), my bubble has been bursted! Great! Just damn great!

Anyhow, still i am thankful that the opportunity i'm so hoping for has come. Whatever happens, that project remains assigned to us, and will never be revoked. All I have to do now is wait until next weekend. I would like to come to that outing anyway. (But i really prefer the fieldwork. Hahaha!) I'm just excited, and I cannot hide it!
